The tradition of printmaking in Mexico officially dates back to the 19th century, when the technique of lithography was introduced. These new tools paved the way for the emergence, by the end of that century, of prominent printmakers such as José Guadalupe Posada, the creator of La Catrina, which has become a defining element of Mexican popular culture. On this tour, we’ll visit a space dedicated to this important figure in one of the city’s most iconic neighborhoods, and we’ll also gain insight into the specific techniques of this art form by creating our own print under the guidance of an artisan.
