A Day Among Catrinas and Engravings. Coyoacán.

CDMX 1 día

About this tour

The tradition of printmaking in Mexico officially dates back to the 19th century, when the technique of lithography was introduced. These new tools paved the way for prominent engravers such as José Guadalupe Posada to emerge by the end of that century; he is the creator of the catrina, which has become a defining element of Mexican popular culture. On this tour, we’ll visit a space dedicated to this important figure in one of the city’s most iconic neighborhoods, and we’ll also gain insight into the specific techniques of this art form by creating our own print under the guidance of an artisan.

Dra. Carmina Pérez

Historian and Historical Communicator

I love dogs, horror movies, classic Mexican cinema, and I’m an avid knitter. I enjoy capturing life’s smallest details, taking photographs of everyday places or objects that go unnoticed amid the hustle and bustle of the present. I believe we can see the world around us with fresh eyes and be amazed by the obvious things we’ve never really paid attention to.
